Online shopping boom in Cambodia, Smile Shop's online business grows strongly

Cambodia’s leading B2C e-commerce Smile Shop is responding to consumers’ fixed demand for groceries by offering discounts to new users and providing confirmed delivery time windows to addresses within the capital .

Smile Shop APP is a convenient mobile application jointly developed by local businessmen Thiep Sovannarith , Mak Chamroeun and Jack Lee .

In response to increased demand for groceries during the lockdown , Smile Shop said it would offer new first-time shoppers a $10 discount on purchases of $25 or more .

Smile Shop also ensures delivery in Phnom Penh within two to twelve hours of ordering. Outside the capital , delivery may take up to 48 hours, the company said.

It is understood that the Smile Shop APP sells products from many partners, including fresh produce , groceries , electronics and daily necessities.

It also offers contactless payments through ABA Bank , Wing , AliPay , UnionPay , Visa , Mastercard , Pi Pay and Huione Pay.

Svonnareth, one of the founders of Smile Shop , said that during the lockdown, consumers ' demand for local fresh food continued to increase, but Smile Shop was able to deliver on time with an excellent delivery team. He added that the company had obtained a letter of authorization from local authorities to be able to pass through checkpoints.

Another founder , Chamroeun, said Covid-19 has led to a massive migration towards digitalisation in the Cambodian retail market .

He said that this is a very critical period in Cambodia during which e-commerce platforms can provide assistance to the government and the people in the fight against Covid-19. After the pandemic, the digital economy will be a key factor in economic recovery.

Recently, Smile Shop launched a "Buy Local" project to support small and medium-sized farmers from selling their products on the online store by providing all the technical and logistical expertise to make the process as smooth as possible .

In this way, local vendors who have lost their jobs or suffered financial setbacks during the pandemic can benefit from Smile Shop by expanding their customer base.
