As Christmas and other holiday seasons are getting closer, not only are people looking forward to it, but corporate retailers are also gearing up and getting ready to do a big job.
In the UK, although sales have rebounded significantly this year, the repeated outbreaks of the epidemic have been difficult to control, which has also made market sales unstable. However, according to Mastercard Spending Pulse, which measures various in-store payment methods and compares online sales, it is expected that UK sales will increase by 8% from November 1 to December 26 compared with the same period last year.
And amid the epidemic, consumers will continue their online shopping habits, and e-commerce sales in November and December are expected to increase by 35% compared with the same period in 2019 before the epidemic.
Last year, due to the impact of the epidemic lockdown, the British Christmas parties were all cancelled. So in order to make up for last year's regrets, many British people are preparing to "show off their skills" at the Christmas parties. It is expected that spending on clothing will increase significantly, an increase of 11% compared with the same period last year.
Looking at online sales alone, apparel sales are expected to grow 32% year-over-year and 71% compared to the same period in 2019.
Mastercard said that during the holiday period, it is expected that British people will increase social gatherings at home with family and friends, so grocery spending will also increase by 6% year-on-year.
In addition, people will use their free time during the holidays to change the decoration of their homes to match the festive atmosphere. Most consumers will also choose to shop online, so the online sales of home furnishings will increase by about 46% compared with store sales.
Compared with the same period in 2019 before the epidemic, the sales of household products will also increase by about 8%. This also shows that people's willingness to consume is stronger than before the epidemic.
The president of Mastercard's UK and Ireland division said that the weeks before Christmas have always been a critical period for retailers. Coupled with the fact that people were unable to attend live events as normal last year, this year's desire for the holidays will make them more excited , which will also greatly help shopping sales. Spending Pulse predicts that UK retailers will see a strong rebound in sales in the run-up to Christmas 2021.
Previously, due to factors such as rising energy prices and unstable supply chains, many British consumers were worried about not being able to buy their favorite products, so they made Christmas purchases in advance. This also shows that even in the context of the epidemic, British consumers still have a strong desire to consume.
In addition, many regions have resumed normal social activities, which has increased the demand for clothing and other products from local consumers. In addition to preparing holiday-themed clothing, sellers can also prepare appropriate stock of general fashion clothing for going out to meet the strong demand from consumers in the future.
