Logistics industry grows significantly! Vietnam hopes to solve infrastructure problems

As the global pandemic spreads , Vietnam is expected to be the only ASEAN economy to grow .

It is reported that Vietnam joined RCEP through the approval of CPTPP and EVFTA. Affected by regional trade tensions, Vietnam has become the next regional hub for logistics , manufacturing, energy production , agricultural production , distribution and corporate investment.

Vietnam’s logistics industry is experiencing significant growth due to the country’s expanding economy, manufacturing, and e-commerce sectors.

The government now hopes to solve the bottleneck problem of logistics infrastructure as soon as possible, and eliminating bottlenecks in transportation infrastructure and policy mechanisms is considered an important solution to reduce logistics costs , which can improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises and goods in the coming years .

Data shows that Vietnam has 630,500 kilometers of roads, including less than 2,000 kilometers of expressways . Due to the lack of infrastructure connecting roads and seaports, logistics costs are not sufficiently competitive.

Vietnam has been building more expressways and national roads, and has large seaports that serve as international transit gateways, according to Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Import and Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade .

Vietnam has also upgraded existing airports and developed new ones, he added. However, he noted that rail infrastructure remains underdeveloped and has yet to promote the role of transport in development .

Over the past decade, Vietnam's GDP growth rate has often reached 6% to 8%. The rapid growth of commodity production and trade has led to a sharp increase in demand for logistics infrastructure and services , but Vietnam's logistics infrastructure and services have not yet met the demand, resulting in high costs.

He said that in order to improve the situation, it is necessary to take comprehensive measures. The government needs to issue specific policies to set the appropriate direction for logistics development, including policies related to local development.

He also stressed the need to promote administrative reforms and the digitalization of administrative procedures , strengthen the links between logistics infrastructure networks, and pay attention to training and improving the quality of human resources in the industry .
