Today, Ramadan has gradually evolved into an important festival for e-commerce promotions. This year's Ramadan will start at dusk on April 13 and end at dusk on May 12. Before and during Ramadan, consumers will buy a large number of items from e-commerce platforms.
Neha Choudhary, vice president of execution and strategy at Noon, an e-commerce platform in the Middle East, said that when Ramadan began in April last year, the UAE was implementing strict epidemic lockdown measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, so consumers mainly bought necessary food online.
Regarding this year's Ramadan promotions, Chaudhry said that last year's Ramadan was still in the epidemic lockdown stage, people could not meet, and large gatherings could not be held. As this year's epidemic restrictions have been relaxed, small family gatherings and restaurant operations have been allowed, and consumers' e-commerce online shopping spending trends are expected to be similar to 2019 to some extent.
She added: “This year the situation looks more optimistic, as reflected in the rise in Ramadan-related trends on our platform.”
During Ramadan, e-commerce platforms usually see a surge in purchases. Chaudhry believes that this will be more pronounced this year because consumers have become accustomed to and love online shopping. Due to the epidemic, Noon gained a lot of new customers last year, and most customers have become accustomed to online shopping, which was difficult to see before.
For sellers, Ramadan is also a great opportunity not to be missed. Chaudhry said that although omnichannel sales will always exist, Ramadan is a period of high traffic for us and other e-commerce platforms, and it is also a great opportunity for sellers to display their products to millions of customers.
In terms of product sales growth, Chaudhry said that household goods, home appliances and groceries are the most purchased by consumers during Ramadan promotions. In the first two weeks of Ramadan, the performance of groceries is still good. In addition, fashion and beauty, games and toys, and perfumes and cosmetics will also grow because people will give gifts during Eid.
Chaudhry added that these trends apply in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, with Saudi Arabia showing the most significant trends due to the country’s larger population of Muslim consumers. middle East |
