Attention! Japan is expected to lift the state of emergency on March 21

According to foreign media reports , the Japanese government may end the state of emergency covering the Tokyo metropolitan area as planned on Sunday , believing that there is no need to extend it again because infections have dropped from their peak and pressure on hospitals has eased.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is due to meet with Cabinet members, including Health Minister Norihisa Tamura and the minister in charge of the coronavirus response, Yasutoshi Nishimura, in the evening to discuss the decision.

But there are still analyses among governors and experts on lifting the state of emergency on the 21st. Government officials say that while some in Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga favor easing restrictions, there are still concerns about rising infection rates and the spread of more contagious variants of the new coronavirus.

According to the survey, some netizens do not support lifting the state of emergency, believing that by the middle of next week, pubs and restaurants will reopen until the early morning and the number of new cases in Tokyo will jump to four digits.

Tokyo , Kanagawa , Chiba and Saitama prefectures have been under a state of emergency since early January , with people asked to avoid unnecessary outings and restaurants and bars required to close by 8 p.m.

The government is encouraging businesses to adopt remote working, and the number of people attending large events such as concerts and sporting events is capped at 5,000.

Suga is expected to seek approval from a panel of experts in infectious diseases and other fields on Thursday before finalizing it at a meeting of the government's epidemic task force.

At a news conference later in the day, he will announce new measures aimed at supporting restaurants hard-hit by the outbreak, bolstering the health care system to prevent the spread of more contagious coronavirus variants and stepping up testing and vaccinations, the sources said.

On Jan. 7, Suga declared a one-month state of emergency for the Tokyo metropolitan area amid a surge in infections, then expanded it to 11 prefectures and extended most of them by one month, until March 7 , with the capital and its neighboring areas extended for another two weeks until Sunday.

Like other countries, Japan has tightened border controls and banned all foreign residents from entering the country. But as vaccines become more widely available, there is growing discussion about how to resume travel safely.

It is still uncertain whether Japan will lift the state of emergency on the 21st. Sellers should pay more attention to the latest developments in Japan, strictly abide by relevant policies, and standardize operations.
