Hamad Buamim , president of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said at the summit that driven by the pandemic-led digital transformation and changes in consumer demand, Dubai's e-commerce is expected to grow by 23% to reach US$27 billion (about US$175.5 billion) by 2022.
Based on new market analysis, the forecast data reflects the efforts of retailers in the Middle East and elsewhere to transform their business models, accelerate digital transformation, and seek new ways to innovate and engage with customers.
The summit, co-organized by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Meydan One Group, is themed “A New Dynamic Future for Retail” and focuses on the major trends in the global retail landscape, as well as the challenges and opportunities that are about to emerge .
The summit brought together 1,000 representatives from the e-commerce and retail industries, including global industry leaders such as Amazon, Mercedes-Benz, New Balance, Burger King, Lulu, Huda Beauty, etc. Representatives from all parties discussed issues such as the development of luxury goods during the pandemic, the changing trend of consumer loyalty, sustainable fashion, future stores, innovation, and the role of startups in the new retail ecosystem.
Hamad Buamim believes that as many countries begin to vaccinate against the coronavirus, the e-commerce and retail industries should be vigilant. He said: "In the coming period, the popularization of the coronavirus vaccine is crucial to the recovery of global retail and will reshape the economic landscape in the short term. In addition, the old market rules may no longer apply. If e-commerce and retail companies want to stand out from the competition, they need to take bold and differentiated actions. "
After the pandemic began to spread around the world last year, the e-commerce industry can be said to have benefited from the pandemic to achieve such rapid and astonishing growth. However, as the world begins large-scale vaccination, it may be difficult for the e-commerce industry to take advantage of the "wind". Therefore, e-commerce companies and sellers should start thinking about how to retain customers, how to differentiate, how to tell a good brand story, and how to maintain business growth. middle East Dubai |
