Trading volume surges 200%! Muslim products sweep Southeast Asia

Indonesia has a total population of about 262 million, of which Muslims alone account for about 230 million, accounting for 90% of the total population in the region. It is the country with the largest number of Muslims in the world.

For Muslims, Eid al-Fitr has a special meaning. In Indonesia, Muslims fast and hold ceremonies every year. For cross-border sellers, Ramadan is a great opportunity to increase sales. Before and after Ramadan, the demand for Muslim fashion products surges, and related products will be hot-selling.

As Indonesia's largest and most visited e-commerce platform, Tokopedia has seen a nearly two-fold increase in transactions for Muslim fashion products . " The volume of transactions in the Muslim fashion subcategory on Tokopedia has almost doubled in recent days , " said Falah Fakhriyah, head of product development at Tokopedia, in a statement.

He said that compared with 2019, the products with the fastest growth in transaction volume on the Tokopedia platform in 2020 were Muslim vests, prayer mats, children's aprons and headscarves .

During the epidemic, many companies and sellers chose to sell their products through the Tokopedia platform to maintain the survival and operation of their businesses.

Falah Fakhriyah added: “Tokopedia believes that adaptation through collaboration and innovation is key to navigating the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Tokopedia will continue to support more Muslim fashion businesses and sellers to drive the national economic recovery.”

The epidemic has indeed had a huge impact on sellers, businesses, and dealers, and product sales and turnover have plummeted. During this period, the free delivery service and TopAds function provided by the Tokopedia platform successfully attracted the attention of consumers, and sales also increased significantly.

On the other hand, Tokopedia also held the #SalamBestHijabBrand competition through Tokopedia Salam to recognize local Muslim fashion businesses that have continued to adapt and innovate during the pandemic .

In previous years, consumers' shopping expenditures during Ramadan increased significantly, and promotional activities attracted not only Muslims, but also many non-Muslims . It is worth mentioning that data shows that compared with the period before Ramadan, online traffic will surge around 5 a.m. during Ramadan , with a growth rate of 345% in Indonesia , while traffic will decline after 6 p.m., which has a lot to do with the daily routines of local people .

Interested sellers can seize the opportunity to understand the needs and preferences of Muslims, while also not ignoring the needs of non-Muslims. By taking all factors into consideration, they may usher in a small wave of explosive orders!
