China-Russia shipping container freight soars to $13,300
The Russian Retail Enterprises Association said that the freight rate in January this year was about six times that of October last year. Data showed that the freight rate for a 40-foot container from Shanghai to the Russian Far East port was $2,700 from October 1 to 10 last year, $11,100 from December 21 to 31 last year, and $13,300 from January 16 to 31 this year, nearly five times higher than last October.
The situation in Russia's Baltic ports is similar. From October and December last year to January this year, freight rates for goods have jumped three times, from US$3,200 to US$9,900, a three-fold increase.
Andrei Karpov , head of the Russian Retail Enterprises Association , said the main reason for the increase in freight rates is the shortage of containers. Due to heavy traffic, containers were delayed in unloading, and a large number of containers were stranded in European and American ports, resulting in a shortage of containers worldwide.
In addition, due to the epidemic, imports from Europe and the United States increased and exports decreased. Many containers left European and American ports empty, and many factors led to an increase in container transportation costs. However, Andre said that this situation is temporary and will ease in the next six months.
Experts said that shipping prices have increased costs for manufacturers and retailers , leading to price increases for some imported goods in the Russian market. The first to be affected are household appliances and electronic products, whose prices have risen by about 10% to 20%. In addition, Russia imports a large number of clothing accessories, shoes, toys, furniture and other light industrial products from China and Southeast Asia, which will also be affected by sea transportation, with prices rising by 5% to 7%.
The number of China-Europe freight trains entering and leaving China-Russia ports exceeds 10,000
Due to the shortage of shipping containers and soaring prices, the number of China-Europe freight trains is increasing. Under the impact of the epidemic and the container problem, China-Europe freight trains have grown against the trend.
According to China Railway Harbin Bureau Group Co., Ltd., as of February 19, the cumulative number of China-Europe freight trains entering and leaving the China-Russia ports (via Manzhouli and Suifenhe) exceeded 10,000, reaching 10,556 trains, and 952,601 standard containers of goods were shipped.
It is reported that in the past year, the China-Europe trains entering and leaving the country through the China-Russia ports accounted for 30% of the total China-Europe trains in the country. At present, there are 52 China-Europe train lines running through the Manzhouli and Suifenhe ports , and the number of trains is also growing continuously.
The export goods of China-Europe trains through China-Russia ports include daily necessities, electrical appliances, industrial machinery, metals, agricultural and sideline products, etc. The cargo collection places cover 60 cities including Guangzhou, Tianjin, Suzhou, Changsha, etc.
In addition, the return of empty containers on China-Europe trains has improved. According to CCTV, the return rate of China-Europe trains running through China-Russia ports has reached 100%. Russia; China-Europe Express |
