What is Cielo? Cielo Review, Features

Cielo is a Brazilian acquirer that allows you to accept payments from VISA and MasterCard.

About Cielo

Cielo is the largest credit and debit card operator in Brazil and the largest payment systems company in Latin America by revenue and market capitalization. Companhia Brasileira de Meios de Pagamento (Brazilian Payment Means Company), dba VisaNet, was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Visa International and Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Banco Real (now Banco Santander) and now the banks. The aim was to create a common infrastructure to be used by all banks that issue Visa cards, rather than each bank having a separate technology solution to process credit card transactions. On July 1, 2010, VisaNet changed its name to Cielo, in compliance with Brazilian government regulations, and is no longer the sole Visa card processor in Brazil. Its main competitor, Rede, is now allowed to process Visa cards, and Cielo is allowed to process Mastercard, Diners Club and other cards that only Redecard processes. Cielo contributes to the sales, finance and administration of more than 1.5 million active customers.
