" China produces 75 % of the world's lithium batteries ." This is a number that makes the Chinese battery industry proud. And going overseas through cross-border e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress is becoming a popular choice for battery sellers.

 

The reporter learned from AliExpress, one of the "Four Little Dragons Going Global" of e-commerce , that in 2024, the overall GMV of the battery category under AliExpress's consumer electronics will grow rapidly year-on-year, among which storage batteries (battery packs) and outdoor energy storage power supplies will explode by two or three times.

 

After 2022, the global new energy power industry will develop rapidly. European mainstream countries will encourage civilian energy storage and photovoltaic industries, and ordinary consumers will also begin to consider adding power infrastructure to their home power cycle . The battery category has become a cross-border track with huge potential in the consumer electronics industry .

 

 

According to a recent CCTV report, China's international market share of liquid lithium batteries has reached the first place in the world, and more than 70% of the world's lithium batteries are produced in China. With strong technical barriers, batteries have become China's absolute advantage in supply, and selling Chinese batteries overseas is undoubtedly an exciting business opportunity.

 

At the beginning of 2024, AliExpress launched the "overseas trusteeship" model to further support China's high-quality supply and brand merchants to go overseas, and high-order products such as batteries ushered in a full-scale explosion. It is reported that "overseas trusteeship" allows merchants who already have overseas stock to entrust their products to the platform for sale. The platform undertakes all operations, marketing, and customer service. Merchants are equivalent to adding a new sales channel at zero cost, and only need to wait for orders to be shipped from their own warehouses.

 

Pure electric products such as batteries are "heavy and expensive" and have high requirements for logistics, so many merchants stock them in overseas warehouses, which is a perfect match with the overseas custody model.

 

An AliExpress merchant specializing in outdoor portable power supplies said that the overall industry environment in 2024 has actually declined compared to 2023. The original intention was to clear inventory through AliExpress's overseas hosting, and " the actual results far exceeded expectations ." Just one month after entering the overseas hosting , out -of-stock products occurred. Clearing inventory has turned into a factory working at full capacity and overtime to meet deadlines.

 

Another key factor is "brand". Liitokala , a leading battery brand in the battery industry , is a battery brand that grew up entirely on AliExpress . Its founder, Lan Zhengsen, said that because batteries have certain technical content and have high requirements for safety and usage specifications, consumers pay more attention to brand image and are not too concerned about price.

 

In 2024, AliExpress will vigorously support POP (self-operated) merchants and launch the "10 billion subsidies for brands going global" plan, accompanying brands to go global through platform subsidies and tailor-made marketing strategies. For battery brands, this is the unique attraction of AliExpress, as they do not have to blindly offer low prices and have more room for flexible operations.

 

In the nearly 10 years of growth on AliExpress , Liitokala has expanded into markets around the world , including Russia, France, Brazil, and South Korea. During big sales, there was simply not enough packaging materials. In 2025, AliExpress has frequently shown goodwill to merchants, increased the rights and interests of new merchants, optimized the business environment, and reduced merchants' after-sales costs.

 

"The battery category is not very popular on AliExpress , " a merchant lamented, "especially this year's overseas hosting, which has given us many new opportunities."
