Temu removes 19 such products from shelves in Europe!

Recently, Temu removed 19 children's toys from its shelves in Europe, 95% of which may pose safety risks to children.

The cause of the incident dates back to the end of 2023. At that time, the European Toy Industry Association (TIE) purchased 19 toys on the Temu platform. These toys were then sent to an EU-accredited testing laboratory to evaluate the safety of these toys.

The results were shocking: None of the toys met EU regulations , and 18 of them (95%) did not meet European safety regulations, posing safety risks to children , including cuts, tracheal blockage caused by accidental ingestion, suffocation, entanglement around the neck, and containing harmful chemicals.

The French Toy and Childcare Industry Association ( FJP ) mentioned the test results in an external report on Tuesday. On Thursday, FJP Vice President Julie Chaboud mentioned the matter again at an event in Milan, France.

Julie Chaboud cited a baby rattle toy with a colorful ribbon as an example. The edges of the rattle are quite sharp, so there is a risk of cutting children using it. There is also a risk that the toy parts will become loose and be swallowed by children. There is also a slime toy, which contains 11 times more boron than the legal limit.

Julie Chaboud stressed that these products from e-commerce platforms cannot be regulated by the EU because they are sent directly from Chinese manufacturers to French consumers. As a result, relevant regulatory agencies cannot judge and verify whether these products meet EU usage standards.

After receiving these inspection results, the European Toy Industry Association immediately reported them to Temu. In response, Temu said that the platform has taken measures to remove all the toy products mentioned in the feedback to ensure that users can no longer purchase these products.

The European Toy Industry Association welcomed Temu's response, but believes that these measures alone are not enough. The organization said in a press release that for every dangerous toy found on the platform, there are countless other dangerous toys that have not been discovered and eventually fall into the hands of consumers across the EU.

In addition, the European and French Toy Federations also called on the authorities to promptly crack down on illegal foreign operators who ignore the rules and sell dangerous toys. The organization also condemned the loopholes in the relevant laws and called on relevant EU agencies to improve the regulations in this regard as soon as possible to protect the safety of children and ensure that reputable toy companies can operate in a fair competition environment.
