Temu faces controversy in Italy

After becoming popular in the United States, Temu has swept the Italian market.

Since its official launch in April, Temu has entered the top 10 (ranked 10th) in the Italian e-commerce platform traffic data and rankings updated by Casaleggio Associat (as of June this year).

In the early days of its launch, Temu created a storm on social platforms, with many celebrities trying to dispel users' negative impressions and concerns about it. Thanks to this, the platform has successfully attracted a large number of users.

One of the reasons why users are so attracted is the low-priced products and free shipping services provided by the platform, with discounts of up to 90% for some products, which is too low compared to the normal market standards.

As the market share continues to expand, users are questioning it. The first question is whether the product will really be shipped after the order is placed and paid . Of course, users are now sure that this is not a scam.

Another question that worries users is why Temu's products are so cheap. The initial promotion in Italy included comprehensive promotions, free shipping, and numerous coupons. Some users could buy home and office supplies for only about 3 euros, and even discounted items such as bath mats, Bluetooth headsets, and clothes for a few cents.

Regarding the low prices, the American consumer organization Better Business Bureau once expressed its opinion: the products sold by Temu are shipped directly from manufacturers in China or other countries, without the need for other middlemen, thus ensuring lower costs.

The low price is accompanied by poor product quality. This has triggered a discussion among local people about the circular economy. After all, if a product only costs 3 euros , it is natural and reasonable for people to think that it is not durable.

A piece of clothing or accessory that doesn’t fear durability is obviously difficult to give away . Especially when the item is damaged and the cost of repairing it may be the same as buying it, users will find themselves throwing things away more frequently than before.

This is actually a very troublesome thing in many ways. For users, they need to frequently buy the goods they need, then throw them away, and then buy them again; for the environment, some items may be difficult to handle, such as elements such as microfibers scattered in the environment. These are challenges to the circular economy and the concept of repair . At the same time, these two points are also the controversy currently faced by many e-commerce companies. Now, due to the increase in Temu's popularity, this topic has once again sparked widespread discussion in Italy.

As for how to prove its attitude to the entire market, it is obvious that Temu still has a long way to go in Italy.
