Amazon faces lawsuit after own-brand product goes wrong again

In addition to third-party sellers, Amazon's own brands are also an important part of its sales. According to different categories, Amazon has many own brands. Recently, according to foreign media reports, Amazon is facing a lawsuit because the spices of its own brand Happy Belly contain excessive heavy metals.

According to the lawsuit, Happy Belly spices contain heavy metals including arsenic, cadmium and lead at levels that exceed safe levels for adults and children, and Amazon neither listed the toxic heavy metals in the spice ingredients list nor warned consumers of these potential risks.

Consumer Reports investigated several brands of herbs and spices, including Amazon's Happy Belly 's chopped coriander, curry powder and chopped thyme, and found that the heavy metal content in chopped thyme exceeded the standard . Excessive heavy metal content will have adverse effects on consumers' health, including decreased intelligence and bone deformities, especially for children.

The lawsuit states that Amazon has committed unjust enrichment and fraud by profiting from the sale of products containing excessive amounts of heavy metals, and has violated the Washington Consumer Protection Act and the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, among other things . It also requires Amazon to provide compensatory, punitive, actual, and triple damages, as well as injunctive and declaratory relief to all defendants.

In addition to Amazon, last month La Flor Products and B&G Foods also faced similar lawsuits, accused of containing toxic heavy metals in herbs and spices. Although food sellers are rarely involved, sellers should also pay attention to the heavy metal content in product packaging and other aspects to ensure that they meet safety standards.

This is not the first time that Amazon's own brand has encountered problems. Last year, an Amazon mattress was recalled because it did not meet federal mattress flammability standards and posed a fire hazard. The recall involved approximately 15,300 mattresses .

Safety is no small matter. If quality problems occur, the seller may face recall at the very least and may even face lawsuits at the worst. No matter what products the seller makes, he should strictly control product quality to avoid unnecessary losses.
