Breaking news! A 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan

It is understood that an earthquake occurred off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan at 23:36 local time on the 16th. The Japan Meteorological Agency revised the magnitude from 7.3 to 7.4 early this morning. It is reported that the earthquake caused at least 4 deaths, more than 100 injuries, and millions of households without power.

A tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake struck off the coast of Japan's Fukushima prefecture, but it was lifted on Thursday morning, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida later saying "no abnormalities were found" at any of the country's nuclear power plants .

But the area was hit by a powerful earthquake and tsunami 11 years ago , causing a nuclear power plant meltdown.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake's preliminary epicenter was 60 kilometers (18 mi) deep . It warned of tsunami heights of up to one meter (1 meter) above normal tide levels, with the initial waves reaching the shore around midnight local time (11 a.m. ET).

An eight-inch tsunami struck the coastline of Japan's Miyagi Prefecture about an hour and a half after the quake, according to the agency, which urged people in the affected areas to stay away from the coast.

A bullet train derailed near Fukushima due to the earthquake, but no casualties were reported, Kishida told a news conference. Seventy-eight people were trapped for four hours after the high-speed train derailed but escaped safely through emergency exits, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The weather agency on Thursday urged the public to watch out for more seismic activity in the coming days. Masaki Nakamura, an official with the agency, urged people in affected areas to stay away from the coast and not go into the sea until the tsunami warning is lifted. He also urged people to remain vigilant about the risk of mudslides.

This earthquake has had a certain impact on the epicenter and surrounding areas, with transportation being particularly damaged. It is understood that many Shinkansen lines were suspended as a result, but have now been gradually restored. However, some sections of many highways are closed to traffic due to the disaster.

The editor hereby reminds relevant sellers that if there are logistics transportation orders to the area recently, please pay attention to the transportation situation in a timely manner and contact the buyer in time to explain the situation to avoid unnecessary losses due to earthquakes and traffic control issues.
