Truck drivers in many European countries went on strike, causing transport disruptions

According to foreign media reports, truck drivers in many European countries have recently held strikes to protest against rising oil prices. Spanish truck drivers have now begun an indefinite strike across the country to protest against rising oil prices and their poor working conditions .

The strike, which is aimed at the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE)-Podemos government, was called by the Platform for the Defense of Goods Road Transport, which represents small truck companies and self-employed truck drivers. Regional freight associations in the Basque Country and Navarra have also joined the strike.

The striking truck drivers are protesting against inflation and rising fuel prices , and current NATO and EU sanctions on Russia have further accelerated the movement.

In addition to Spain, Italian truck drivers are also on strike nationwide to protest high fuel prices, with a protest planned for March 19, and Moroccan truck drivers are currently on a three-day strike to protest fuel prices , calling for a French truck driver strike on March 21.

The Spanish drivers are demanding a reduction in fuel taxes to compensate for rising fuel prices. In addition, the long-standing inflation rate has been soaring, reaching 7.5% in February, the highest level in 14 years.

These have also led to rising fuel prices, which have been further exacerbated by NATO and EU sanctions on Russia over the conflict with Ukraine, threatening to cut off its oil supply. Gasoline reached 1.68 euros per liter and diesel 1.58 euros, both of which are the highest prices ever recorded in Spain, up 13.8% and 17.6% respectively since December last year.

The strike movement has attracted the attention of about 90% of truck drivers, who have blocked highway traffic or industrial areas in many major cities in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga.

Their actions disrupted the delivery of goods to major ports, blocked motorways and severely affected store deliveries and the transport of supplies across much of Spain .

According to relevant sources, transportation is essential to all economic activities in this country. Trucks are key to global transportation. Without trucks, there would be no ships. If the strike continues, store shelves will soon be empty.
