eBay sellers face bankruptcy after accounts were hacked

Yesterday, according to foreign media reports, an eBay seller is currently facing bankruptcy due to a hacker attack.

According to Grimsby Live, the seller is Phil Green, who mainly conducts Bags-n-Aprons business through eBay and other online platforms, providing services for making and distributing jerseys, clothing, bags, aprons and women's underwear. But recently Phil Green found that products such as Rolex watches, speedboats, bicycles and rare Pokemon cards appeared on his eBay account.

Phil's shop's buyers were usually nursing homes, recreational groups and retailers. But suddenly, he found people from all over the United States ordering expensive watches, speedboats and bicycles from his shop. One buyer spent $1,120 on a Rolex watch, but never received it and sent Phil an angry message. Another seller was angry that he was selling unique Pokémon cards that only American collectors had.

Phil said Bags-n-Aprons had been trading on the Nunsthorpe estate for about 11 years and had no problems selling textiles on eBay. "Sometime between 2pm and 8pm on November 4 our website was hacked. We reported the issue to eBay the next day but they have done little to help us since then."

eBay immediately froze Phil's account and stopped selling on his store. In addition, eBay directly withdrew a total of £14,000 from his account to repay those who did not receive the items they ordered and paid for.

Phil stressed that although eBay had realized that his account had been stolen during the investigation, it still froze the account and took the money from the account, and the payment made by the buyer had already been stolen by the hacker. He now has to relieve the financial pressure by laying off employees, and the store may face bankruptcy at any time. An eBay spokesperson said that the investigation is ongoing and the specific results may need to wait.

The editor would like to remind sellers that they must always pay attention to the operation of their own stores, actively provide feedback to the platform when problems arise, stop losses in time, and avoid impacts on store operations.
