Worried about shipping delays, American sellers come to China to pick up the goods in person!

The supply chain crisis throughout the year has become the biggest headache for sellers. In fact, not only domestic sellers are worried about this, but also American sellers.

According to a report by the National Broadcasting Corporation of the United States, affected by the supply chain crisis, some small and medium-sized American companies have come to China in person to pick up goods to ensure a stable supply of goods.

It is understood that an online baby product store called Pish Posh Baby has started to pick up goods in China frequently. In the past, they occasionally picked up goods in China , mainly because sometimes picking up goods in person can get discounts provided by manufacturers . Charlie Birnbaum, chief operating officer of Pish Posh Baby, said: "Now, we are starting to pick up goods in China more frequently , not to save money, but to ensure a stable supply . " Birnbaum said that picking up goods in person and loading the goods into containers can better control the supply of goods and deliver the goods to customers faster.

"We used to rely on U.S. distributors to get products from China, and they would store the products in their own warehouses. After receiving our orders , they would deliver the products to our warehouses. Now , we place a larger order from China and deliver the goods directly to our own warehouses. "

Coincidentally, Ryan Gunnigle, CEO of Kids2, a toy manufacturer, said that some of the retailers he works with also want to pick up goods directly from his factory in China. At present, at least 10 large retailers have made this request to him, one of which has talked to him four or five times and said that it can increase the order volume by 30%.

However, even if these American sellers can pick up the goods directly in China and deliver them to the ship in person , the ships will have to wait for a long time at the US ports . It is understood that as of November 18, the average waiting time for cargo ships outside the Port of Los Angeles was 18.4 days. After the goods enter the port, they still have to wait for a considerable period of time before they can be shipped out of the port.

Therefore, in addition to picking up goods directly from China, some American companies have begun to build their own warehouses to avoid port congestion.

Levi Conlow, CEO of electric bicycle brand Lectric eBikes, revealed that he started building his own warehouse when there were massive delays in ocean shipping earlier this year. "Third-party logistics distribution centers in Los Angeles are no longer available. They don't have enough capacity to solve the problem." He is ready to completely abandon the handling system of the Port of Los Angeles and use his own warehouse.

From chartering ships to building warehouses and picking up goods in person, American sellers have used various methods to ensure a stable supply. Supply chain issues no longer only affect Chinese sellers. From China to the United States, from raw material procurement to goods delivery, problems always exist.
