Amazon updates its policies again, sellers: This desire for control is unparalleled

Today, when I was browsing the Amazon US forum, I found that the platform has issued an announcement about updating the platform sales policy and seller code of conduct, which has triggered a new round of heated discussions among sellers . The announcement is as follows:

Starting November 26, 2021, the sales policy and seller code of conduct will be updated to explicitly prohibit price fixing and manipulation of search rankings. Amazon's seller code of conduct requires fair conduct and prohibits any form of violation of price fixing laws and manipulation of sales rankings.

The platform welcomes and encourages sellers to lower prices and drive sales through coupons, discounts, flash sales and other activities. However, if you try to influence search results by manipulating keywords to improve search rankings or incentivizing buyers' search displays and other natural behaviors, it will be considered a violation of Amazon's Seller Code of Conduct.

Amazon reminds sellers that they are responsible for the behavior of their accounts, including activities conducted through third-party service providers. Sellers who were previously unaware of this policy should immediately terminate these practices as they violate the Amazon Seller Code of Conduct.

Sellers in the comment section were furious about the platform's policy. Many sellers mentioned that Amazon is the real price monopoly king and it is impossible for sellers to manipulate prices.

One seller said, if I set the price on Amazon at $12.91 USD, my listing will be banned from sale, but other sellers who set higher prices than mine can still sell their products. Is this what you, Amazon, call fair pricing?

Some sellers also complained that Amazon requires sellers to act fairly, but the platform itself does not do so. It provides unfair warehouse allocations to force sellers to use AGL; it gives priority to FBA quotations, but is not responsible for FBA logistics delays and lost goods.

In addition, some sellers have linked this policy to the "low price strategy" not long ago , saying that Amazon compares the prices of Walmart, Target, eBay and other platforms and requires us to sell at the lowest price. Now there is another fair pricing? This is clearly a manifestation of the increasing desire for control.

However, policies are policies after all, and the reality is certainly different. The long-standing problems of fake reviews on the Amazon platform have always affected the fairness of the market. Sellers can only hope that Amazon can truly consider sellers and protect their legitimate rights and interests while emphasizing fairness and justice.
