Cargo delays may lead to higher prices for Russian goods

Many Russian consumer goods are imported from China and transit to Europe, such as clothes, shoes, electronic products, computers, daily chemicals, etc. At the same time, local agricultural products, food, wood, metals, auto parts, etc. also enter China. Due to the epidemic and the peak traffic season, many trucks are now stuck at the China-Russia border, greatly increasing the delivery time of goods.

Experts in the transport and logistics industry point out that queues of trucks are registered at all international automobile inspection points (MAPP) in China , which increases the delivery time of goods from 20 days to 2 months , depending on the border crossing point.

For example, at the largest border crossing, Zabaikalsk -Manchuria, nearly 1,000 trucks have accumulated, while under ideal conditions, the checkpoint can handle up to 360 vehicles per day. Other border crossings are also congested, with trucks waiting in line to pass.

The head of Russia's international road transport said that the number of trucks piled up at the Zabaikalsk checkpoint far exceeds that of the border crossing , and the average idle time of trucks has been 10-15 days . " A production line of 1,000 trucks has become a reality, " he said.

Border downtime is mainly related to border crossing capacity. In addition, large cargo flows also lead to customs clearance difficulties. In order to prevent traffic disruptions, logistics companies remind customers to extend the shipping time in advance and use the least congested border ports to solve it.

Due to the current situation, consignees will experience long delays in receiving their goods , which will affect the fulfillment of their obligations to end customers and bring contractual risks, said the relevant person in charge. In order to compensate for these losses, both carriers and their customers will be forced to increase prices, which will automatically lead to a nationwide increase in the prices of these commodities and an acceleration of the overall inflation rate.

However , some experts pointed out that the main problem on the border between Russia and China is the insufficient transit capacity, which needs to be avoided by increasing the transit capacity from the root .
