On September 2, Cainiao and AliExpress officially launched the self-built self-pickup cabinets deployed in Paris, France. The self-built self-pickup cabinets will be mainly set up in the core business districts and core scenic spots of Paris, such as near the Palace of Versailles and the Montparnasse Tower. The first batch of Cainiao and AliExpress self-built self-pickup cabinets totaled 60 sets. It is expected that by the end of this year, the scale of self-built self-pickup cabinets set up by both parties throughout France will increase to 650 sets.
It is reported that this is the first time that a Chinese self-collection cabinet operator has landed in France.
"European consumers like Chinese products very much . Due to the impact of the epidemic, overseas consumption has shifted more to online, which has kept cross-border e-commerce hot. Self-pickup cabinets provide a contactless pickup mode, which is safer and popular in the local market. " said Bu Hua, head of Cainiao's European region . In addition to building its own self-pickup cabinets, Cainiao also works with partners to provide self-pickup cabinets and self-pickup point pickup services for overseas consumers. In France, Cainiao's self-pickup network can cover more than 95% of consumers in Paris .
According to the China Express Development Index of the State Post Bureau in November 2020 , there are 333,000 smart express lockers in China and 109,000 public service stations at the end of cities . In the process of continuous exploration and improvement, the domestic self-pickup model has been initially verified to have the advantages of flexible pickup and higher efficiency, while the self-pickup lockers have the characteristics of 24-hour service and information security protection.
Cainiao has brought the self-pickup model that has been widely used in China to overseas markets, and has carried out a large number of localized transformations based on the fulfillment chain of cross-border e-commerce . It has also comprehensively improved the operational efficiency of cross-border parcels through trunk charter flights, eHubs, distribution centers, car-class networks, and overseas warehouses, so that overseas consumers can get their parcels faster. At present, Cainiao's European car-class network has been able to radiate more than 30 countries including Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic , with an average of 80 vehicles traveling between European countries every day.
Cainiao not only provides cross-border parcels and overseas warehouse-to-warehouse services for cross-border merchants, but also provides diversified export supply chain solutions by combining domestic preferred warehouses, global overseas warehouses and international logistics capabilities. For categories such as drones and hand-made sewing machines, Cainiao not only solves the problems of direct shipments containing magnets and returns through customized transportation solutions, but the overseas warehouse-to-warehouse model also reduces the freight by 50% compared to direct shipments, helping merchants increase their sales by 600% during Double Eleven.
At the same time, based on artificial intelligence technology, Cainiao's smart logistics brain will intelligently match each package with a route that combines timeliness and cost based on comprehensive factors such as the package flow rate of each route, the processing capabilities of customs and distribution centers, and processing costs. Bu Hua told reporters that Cainiao will continue to support the development of cross-border e-commerce in the following two aspects: on the one hand, it will provide more convenient logistics services to overseas consumers and enhance the shopping experience. For example, the promotion of the self-pickup model in Europe will allow consumers to freely choose self-pickup or home delivery; on the other hand, it will continue to expand the construction of China's logistics network overseas, optimize and implement it according to local conditions, and continue to optimize the logistics links for cross-border merchants to achieve cost reduction and speed increase.
Cainiao export logistics data shows that the inventory of kitchenware, household appliances, home gardening, jewelry, mobile phone accessories, smart devices, power tools, decompression toys and other types of goods has increased rapidly recently. Vacuum food sealers, mops, rice cookers, etc. are at the forefront of French overseas warehouse inventory ; during the 8.28 promotion, the inventory of mops increased by nearly 2000% year-on-year; the number of cross-border parcels of decompression toys, fishing gear, fashion jewelry and other categories increased rapidly.
It is expected that by the end of this year, Cainiao will deploy more than 30,000 self-pickup points and self-pickup cabinets in overseas regions . In March 2021, the average daily cross-border parcel volume of Cainiao's global parcel network exceeded 5 million pieces, ranking among the top four in the world . Among them , the "5 US dollars 10 days delivery" logistics product has covered European countries such as Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, etc., and is expected to cover 20 countries around the world this year, allowing more merchants to deliver to the world with the money for a cup of coffee.
