Reporting infringement and still being blocked? Amazon sellers are devastated...

The editor learned from Amazon's official seller forum that reporting other sellers for violating the rules may also lead to account deactivation.

The user, nicknamed "NAProducts", said that their account was blocked because they did the "right" thing according to the process.

The types of products sold by "NAProducts" are health and home. Due to brand infringement, they reported 17 complaints against another seller within 24 days, involving 17 different cases, and each case was accompanied by customer comments as testimony.

Despite the irrefutable evidence, Amazon banned NAProducts for account abuse. NAProducts said, “Amazon has reporting tools, but don’t use them, or you’ll get into trouble,” and “it’s not recommended for any seller to report a competitor’s violations.”

In this situation, most users said that although what "NAProducts" did was the right way to protect their rights, the number of reports was too many, so Amazon's robot judged it as an attacker. Some users also said that Amazon is essentially a merchant, and it doesn't care what you say, but focuses on who will sell more and pay more membership fees. A large number of sellers said that they were chilled by Amazon's behavior.

In fact, the original intention of Amazon to block accounts is to prevent account abuse, but most of the power to block accounts is in the hands of departments that do not talk directly to sellers, which is very likely to make things worse when there is information asymmetry. And according to what I learned from the official Amazon forum, although Amazon has robots that can scan entries to protect customers, some stubborn sellers will use this form to attack competitors.

Many sellers have misunderstandings about the rules of Amazon Brand Registry. I would like to remind you that Brand Registry does not automatically grant brand protection, they are two different approval processes. If the seller has all the required documents, it is usually easy to obtain Brand Registry.

However, if the seller wants to protect the product, they must initiate a different brand protection request and state the reason for the request. Whether to protect the seller's brand is entirely at the discretion of Amazon.

Although Amazon occasionally makes mistakes in blocking accounts, we cannot use Amazon’s mistakes as the reason for our violations. Complying with regulations is the long-term solution.
