Amazon Australia has announced that New Zealand shoppers can buy products directly from the Australian site and enjoy faster and cheaper delivery services.
Previously, New Zealand consumers who wanted to shop on Amazon could only do so through the US site, which often meant higher delivery fees and longer delivery times. Tony Austin, general manager of Amazon Australia's export, said: "We know that many New Zealand customers have already shopped in US stores, and we are happy to provide them with a faster option." Amazon said that opening the Australian site to New Zealand will enable New Zealanders to buy millions of products from the Australian site at preferential prices.
Amazon said in a statement that for New Zealand customers who shop on the Australian site, standard delivery starts at A$2.99, while customers in parts of Auckland and Christchurch can enjoy expedited delivery within three working days for as low as A$6.99.
Amazon launched Amazon Australia in 2017 and established its first distribution center in Australia in Melbourne. Currently, Amazon has four completed distribution centers in Australia. In addition to Melbourne, the other distribution centers are located in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. Two more distribution centers are being planned or built. According to Amazon, the second distribution center in Sydney is expected to open by the end of this year, covering an area of 200,000 square meters and accommodating up to 11 million products.
There have been rumors that Amazon will build a distribution center in New Zealand, but until now, Amazon has not announced any plans.
However, New Zealand consumers will also be able to shop from New Zealand-based businesses that also use Amazon Australia for cross-platform sales. This means merchants will be able to sell their products in New Zealand through Amazon Australia while keeping their inventory in New Zealand.
Amazon Australia also promises that consumers can enjoy a convenient return service. Most products come with a postage-paid label and can be picked up at home or returned to a nearby DHL.
This is undoubtedly good news for sellers on the Australian site. Amazon New Zealand Australia |
