Attention! South Korea extends current epidemic response measures for three weeks

According to foreign media reports, due to the surge in cases, South Korea will continue to maintain its existing social isolation measures for three weeks until May 2 , including a nationwide ban on gatherings of five or more people. New isolation rules and anti-virus measures will take effect on Monday.

South Korea is understood to have received 700 new daily cases on Thursday and Friday respectively, the highest level in three months.

According to South Korea's health authorities, as one of the measures to curb cluster infections in high-risk facilities, entertainment venues in Seoul, where the epidemic situation is severe , and Busan, the second largest city, are banned from operating for the next three weeks .

Currently, the Seoul area , Incheon , Busan , Daejeon and other cities are at the second level of social distancing, and other areas are below level 1.5, one level lower than the capital area.

There are still group infections across the country, and people are increasingly worried about the epidemic.

But rather than increase social distancing guidelines, health authorities decided to close pubs , clubs and other entertainment venues operating in areas below Level 2 for three weeks.

The move is expected to affect 39,000 businesses, including 15,000 in the Seoul area.

However, despite these restrictions, regional governments will still be able to allow them to remain open until 10 pm , provided they fully implement health measures.

In addition, the curfew for other industries such as cafes, karaoke venues and gyms is currently 10 pm. If the epidemic continues to spread, it will be adjusted back to 9 pm.

In addition, government departments will conduct centralized inspections on the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures in call centers, logistics centers, three-closed (closed, densely packed, close contact) places, and religious facilities.

"Additional special anti-virus measures will be announced early next week and the principle of no tolerance will be enforced against those who violate virus control measures , " a government official told a meeting on the virus response.

South Korea's Minister of Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Kwon Deok-cheol said that the nationwide one-size-fits-all prevention and control measures have caused losses to some industries that have complied with epidemic prevention rules, so it has been decided to strengthen prevention and control measures for high-risk facilities.

He also said that if the current epidemic cannot be contained in time and a fourth wave of the pandemic is triggered, the vaccination work may be delayed . If the epidemic situation worsens, the epidemic prevention response measures can be adjusted at any time even before the 2nd of next month.
