Retail sales fell 1.1 per cent in February, according to preliminary data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics ( ABS ) .
But while total retail sales in Australia fell throughout February , e-commerce sales are booming . In a report from eStar Logistics, online retail sales in Australia grew a remarkable 54% year-on-year, with Victoria and Western Australia leading the growth .
Leigh Williams, managing director of eStore Logistics, said : " This phenomenon is not surprising . From the beginning, we said we would transition to e-commerce, and I have stood by it. The pandemic has accelerated the digitalization process and prompted more people to shop online frequently. "
Among them, the sales volume of online orders for home furnishing and decoration products hit a record high, with a year-on-year increase of 145%. In addition, data shows that home furnishing and decoration products have at least 100% year-on-year growth records every month .
Similarly, sales of fashion and accessories have risen , particularly after a brief slump over the Christmas period , with the category growing 59% and 61% year-on-year in February and January respectively.
“ This growth will continue as more consumers seek convenience in their everyday shopping,” Williams said . “We’ve noticed that as online retailers continue to improve their logistics and delivery capabilities, products are being introduced faster and more efficiently. This creates a positive customer experience and, therefore, drives repeat purchases. ”
Across Australia, every state saw growth in online retail sales in February , but Western Australia and Victoria were the clear winners, with web visits in those states up 78% and 71% respectively . Tasmania was up 49%, followed by New South Wales at 47%. The ACT saw growth of 46%, while South Australia and Queensland saw growth of 42% and 41% respectively.
This shows that due to the impact of the pandemic and the accelerated development of global e-commerce, more and more Australians have started shopping online, and Australia's e-commerce market is booming. Australia E-commerce Home Improvement Products |
