As we all know, product safety has always been a priority in the e-commerce market. In the past two years, there have been many cases where products have been recalled by relevant agencies due to issues such as "substandard product quality and risks".
Recently, foreign media reported that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) once again issued an announcement to recall 21 million old-brand best-selling toys in the United States.
According to information, the recalled products are from the MGA Entertainment Cosmic Workshop series of toy sets, which are sold on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Walmart, and Family Dollar.
CPSC pointed out that the resin material used to shape the product accessories contains acrylic substances, and the content exceeds the safe amount specified by relevant US regulations. If the liquid resin comes into contact with the skin, or is accidentally inhaled or swallowed, it is likely to cause skin allergies , respiratory irritation , etc.
To date, CPSC has received 26 reports of consumers being injured by the product, including skin burns, allergies, respiratory irritation, and even an asthma attack for one consumer.
In response, the CPSC ordered the recall of more than 20 million products sold between October 2022 and June 2024, and also advised consumers to stop using them immediately and contact MGA for a full refund or replacement.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the only recall that’s occurred recently.
Recently, 70,000 terrace sun loungers were also urgently recalled due to the risk of causing serious injuries to users' fingers or even amputation.
It is reported that this product is made by Frontgate, an American luxury outdoor furniture brand , and is manufactured by a Chinese manufacturer. So far, three accident reports have been received, in which consumers said that when adjusting the backrest while sitting on the recliner, the backrest may suddenly drop with force, causing fingers to be pinched. Two of the cases resulted in the victim's partial finger amputation, and the other required surgery.
In early June this year , the CPSC also recalled 1.5 million adult portable bed rails due to the risk of entrapment and suffocation.
There were 2 fatalities and 1 injury reported in the recall report .
In addition, there are many similar recall incidents, such as 21 million battery-powered coolers were recalled due to 5 overheating and fire accidents; more than 130,000 power banks were recalled due to fire hazards; more than 110,000 mattresses were recalled due to fire risks; more than 50,000 electric mini blenders were recalled due to cuts and tears, etc.
It can be seen that the frequent recall incidents not only pose safety risks to consumers, but also affect the brand reputation, causing many sellers to suffer heavy losses. Based on this, many sellers are trembling with fear, fearing that the "catastrophe" of product recalls will befall them one day.
Therefore, both sellers and platforms must strengthen management and ensure the quality of the products they sell . After all, compliance is the general trend, and if you don’t pay attention to it, you will pay the price sooner or later. |
