Many people were detained! Employees of a well-known e-commerce platform secretly replaced products

According to foreign media reports, employees of Flipkart, a large and well-known Indian e-commerce shopping platform, stole 31 mobile phones by taking advantage of their positions.

According to reports, there were four Flipkart employees involved in the fraud, who committed the crime for six months and evaded the police for seven months until they were arrested last Saturday. Because the four people were cautious and did not use the stolen phones immediately, the investigators had to wait for the right opportunity. Even so, only some of the lost phones were recovered.

According to the anti-extortion cell of the Pune Crime Branch, the arrested persons are Moin Sayyed (30) from Talegaon Dabhade, Akash Nikam (32) from Viman Nagar, Ranjeet Kumar Mandal (25) from Mohammadwadi and Tukaram Choughule (40) from Dhayari. They were working as a scanner, driver and delivery boy at Flipkart's warehouse respectively.

But from July 2022 to January 2023, they took the new mobile phones from the express delivery, put stones, old mobile phones and soap in the parcels, packed them neatly and delivered them to the customers. During this period, at least 31 mobile phones were replaced in this way.

When the victimized mobile phone dealer found that the goods in the express delivery were not what he ordered, he asked the Flipkart deliveryman, but the deliveryman just told him that he could complain to the company.

In desperation, the victim reported to Hadapsar police in February this year, saying that unknown persons had stolen 31 mobile phones of different brands from him. He also told the police that whenever he asked the deliverymen about these express deliveries, their answers seemed very perfunctory.

The victim said in the police report that the boxes of the more than 30 mobile phone packages his company received were filled with stones, soap and unusable old mobile phones. Even after communicating with Flipkart many times, he did not get any explanation from the platform.

The police lodged an FIR under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code . So far, at least 19 lost mobile phones have been recovered.

It is reported that when the police first tried to track the lost mobile phones, they found that all of them were turned off. A few days later, when they tracked the phones again through the International Mobile Equipment Identity Code, they found that some of the phones were activated. By tracking the people who used these phones, the police found that the people who used these phones were relatives of the four arrested persons.

The police said that they ( the four suspects) were very careful and did not activate the phones immediately. They also gave or sold the phones to relatives.

The victim's losses have reached more than 700,000 Indian rupees (about 62,000 RMB). The police said that the e-commerce platform should check the company's employees and they will communicate with Flipkart on this issue. At the same time, this is the first case in which the police found that Flipkart employees were directly involved.

At the same time, several other citizens have reported similar cases to the police, and Indian crime department officials are following up on these cases.
