Amazon allows third-party sellers in India to use its logistics network

Amazon is quietly opening its transportation and logistics network to third-party sellers and businesses in India , using its vast logistics network to boost revenue in key overseas markets , according to foreign media reports. This model was first tested in the United States for several months.

Amazon says on its website that the service, called Amazon Shipping, is " widely available, reliable , and, most importantly, very affordable ." In addition, the service will be on call 7 days a week to deliver packages to customers on time.

It is reported that Amazon has invested more than US$6.5 billion in India in the past seven years . The e-commerce giant said that it will provide delivery services at " very competitive prices " and there will be no additional charges for weekend delivery. Customers are not bound by any contracts and can cancel the service at any time.

Amazon also said on its website that it had partnered with local companies Shicarket, Unicommerce, EasyEcom, ClickPost and Vinculum to develop an order and delivery management system. Amazon has been testing the service in India for at least several months, according to an analysis of archived pages.

As Amazon expands its delivery services, local logistics companies may feel a headache, including Delhivery and Ecom Express, and even traditional logistics giants such as Blue Dart and India Post . Earlier this year, Walmart -owned Flipkart also announced that it would open its logistics network to third-party sellers .

India 's Economic Times first reported the new policy , adding that Amazon's logistics service covers all product types except dangerous goods . On a policy page, Amazon said it currently offers ground delivery and limits the number of shipments to 99 pieces per order .

Earlier this year, Amazon opened its logistics network to third-party merchants in the United States with a service called Buy With Prime, a move that analysts said could pose a greater challenge to rivals such as Shopify, which has already built a strong moat in logistics.

Amazon’s logistics are now so massive that it’s a one-stop shop from fulfillment center to the customer ’s doorstep , even though it only works for Amazon , ” Stratechery’s Ben Thompson wrote earlier this year. “But it’s clear that the next step will be to open it up to non-Amazon sellers , which is the future .
