70% of sellers are dissatisfied with eBay

It is understood that the survey involved 1,000 eBay sellers, of which half (51%) were full-time sellers, 39% were part-time sellers, and 10% were freelance sellers.

Most sellers ( 48%) said they primarily sell “antiques/collectibles/memorabilia” on eBay. Other sellers include those selling clothing/fashion (13.44%), electronics/home (8.99%), health/beauty (2.13%), and other (27.43%).

In addition to eBay, many sellers also sell on other platforms, such as Facebook (24.28%), Etsy (21.11%), Mercari (20.91%), Amazon (17.15%), Poshmark (13.68%), etc.

In terms of eBay services, 70% of sellers are dissatisfied with the visibility of their products and feel that eBay does not display their products fairly. Here are some sellers’ opinions:

“--They seemed to control the flow of the tap, sometimes I received all orders from one region in the United States, and also tried some weeks all sales came from other countries;

I have 2 tags with a certain brand, but eBay search results show "zero matches";

eBay always seems to favor big sellers.

eBay would limit traffic and push us to buy ads.

The only way to ensure my listing gets noticed is to buy eBay advertising and set the percentage higher than eBay recommends, usually 8% or more, when they already charge me 13% of every sale.

..."

Some sellers also mentioned the impact of the category adjustment. One seller said: "Due to the change in the collectibles category, my page views have dropped by 80%."

In addition, 80% of sellers think that eBay charges too high fees. One seller wrote: "If they don't display all my products, they shouldn't charge me monthly store fees." Half of the respondents also complained that eBay did not provide them with the tools they needed to sell their products.

When asked how to increase visibility on eBay, many people mentioned a few basic factors: more and better pictures, more descriptive words in the listing.
