Search volume surges as demand for children's masks surges in the United States

The current epidemic is recurring, and the United States is the hardest hit area. On January 3rd local time, the number of confirmed cases of the new crown in a single day exceeded 1 million, which also broke the global record for new cases in a single day. Under such circumstances, not only is the supply of testing reagents in short supply, but the demand for masks is also increasing.

With the start of the new semester in the United States, the demand for children's masks has surged. Local public health experts urged them to abandon cloth masks and switch to KN95 and KF94, which can better filter aerosols that spread viruses. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends that all students aged 2 and above wear masks indoors.

This data can first be seen from Google search trends. Since January, as the epidemic has become more serious, the search volume for "Kids KN95 mask" has risen again. Although it has slowed down compared to the sudden surge in demand in the past few days, it is still under high demand.

In addition, e-commerce platforms are an important way for people to buy masks. The search volume of the keyword "Kids KN95 mask" on Amazon has increased dramatically, and the search ranking has been on an upward trend. And through the search data, it can be found that the search traffic last week alone was close to 180,000, which shows how popular it is.

Not only has the search volume increased, but the price has also fluctuated greatly with demand. It is reported that children's KN95 masks sold for $3 each at the peak of the Delta wave, then fell back to $1 to $1.5, and now it has risen back to more than $2. Relevant personnel from the protection agency said that the problem for many families is not finding masks, but paying for them.

According to the president of mask distributor Ball Chain Manufacturing Co., the demand for KN95 masks has increased dramatically in the past three weeks, and the sales of children's masks have tripled in December compared with the recent sales low. And according to another surgical mask producer Premium-PPE, before January, the factory made children's KN95 masks 24 hours a day, and it is expected to be sold out in February.

The epidemic in the United States is still in a serious state, and the consumption boom for protective products such as masks may continue for some time.
