More than 38% of U.S. holiday shoppers plan to return items, and 51% continue shopping after the holidays

The holiday shopping season is coming to an end. During the holidays, many American consumers have bought gifts for themselves or their family and friends. Recently, according to foreign media reports, a large number of consumers returned holiday gifts they did not need after the holidays, and some consumers plan to continue their holiday shopping after Christmas.

After conducting a holiday shopping survey of more than 1,000 holiday shoppers, U.S. coupon website RetailMeNot found that more than 38% of shoppers will return their unwanted holiday gifts. The survey also found that holiday shopping will continue into the new year, with about 51% of shoppers saying they will continue holiday shopping after Christmas.

As for the reasons for continuing to shop after the holidays, 48% of respondents said they will look for better value items after holiday discounts, 34% said they plan to shop on their own, and 9% of consumers said they will buy items that were not available during Black Friday and the holiday season due to stock shortages.

In addition, RetailMeNot has compiled the 2021 holiday return policies of some of the top retailers in the United States:

Amazon: Most items purchased between October 1 and December 31, 2022 can be returned until January 31, 2022.

Best Buy: Best Buy has extended its return and exchange period for holiday purchases. According to Best Buy's policy, the return period for items purchased between October 18, 2021 and January 2, 2022 is extended to January 16, 2022.

Macy's: Items purchased online or in-store beginning October 5, 2021, can be returned by January 31, 2021.
