IndiaMART is India's largest online B2B platform for goods and services, known as the "Indian version of Alibaba." Founded by Dinesh Agarwal and Brijesh Agarwal in 1996, IndiaMART mainly helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs), large enterprises and individuals connect and sell to each other through online platforms.

About IndiaMART

Like Alibaba and TradeKey, IndiaMART also provides basic and premium membership services to its customers. The model and operation mode are almost comparable to Alibaba.com, and just like Alibaba, IndiaMART also provides sellers with the opportunity to promote their products and invest in the Indian market.

IndiaMart is India's largest B2B trading platform. As of March 2019, the site has more than 82 million buyers and more than 5 million suppliers, providing a variety of commercial and industrial products. Buyers from almost every country in the world use the site. Suppliers can register for free and create a small website to showcase their products.

Development History

-In April 1996, IndiaMART was established.

-In December 2007, IndiaMART was nominated as “NIRYAT SHIROMANI PURSKAR” and “Gold Medal” by the Council of Outstanding Small and Medium Importers and Exporters of India.

-In 2008, IndiaMART was awarded the "Friendly Enterprise Excellence Award" at the 10th International Business INBUSH.

-On August 22, 2008, IndiaMART won the 2008 Super Achievement Award.

-On December 8, 2008, IndiaMART won the 2008 Red Herring 100 Asia Award.

-In early 2009, the company received Rs 500 crore in Series A funding from Intel Capital.

-In August 2013, IndiaMART acquired Playcez, a local events discovery app, to focus on mobile business.

-In June 2014, IndiaMART launched its e-commerce retail platform Tolexo.

-In November 2014, IndiaMART launched a campaign with Indian film actor Irrfan Khan as its brand ambassador.

In 2015, the company claimed to have 3 million suppliers on its website.

-In March 2016, IndiaMart completed its Series C financing, led by Amadeus Capital, with participation from Westbridge Capital (India-US multinational venture capital) and Accion Frontier Inclusion Fund. Existing investor Intel Capital also participated.

-IndiaMART had a market share of approximately 60% in the online B2B segment in India in FY2017.

-As of March 31, 2018, IndiaMART had 59.81 million registered buyers.

-IndiaMART's revenue grew to Rs 4,105 crore in 2018 and posted a profit of Rs 460 crore in 2018.

-On June 24, 2019, according to foreign media reports, IndiaMART, India's largest B2B platform, launched its initial public offering (IPO) on this day. It will sell shares at a price of 970 Indian rupees per share, with a maximum fundraising amount of 47.6 billion rupees. IndiaMart's equity will be listed on BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India.
