Sales exceeded 1 trillion yen in 3 months, Japan's Rakuten's first quarter report for 2021 is released

Japan's Rakuten Group recently released its financial results for January to March 2021 (first quarter).

 

In the first quarter of 2021, Rakuten's domestic e-commerce sales in Japan were 1,122 billion yen, up 22.4% from the same period last year. The number of seller stores increased by 686 from December 2020 to 54,480. Total sales centered on commodity retail e-commerce increased by 33.9% year-on-year, also showing a sharp upward trend.

 

Solid user base

 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of users of Lotte Shopping increased, and the user fixation rate and cross-usage rate also increased.

 

Of those who purchased from Rakuten Ichiba in the fourth quarter of 2020 , approximately 73% also used Rakuten in January-March 2021 (the first quarter) .

 


During the period from January to March 2021, the proportion of cross-use users of " Rakuten Ichiba ", " Rakuma " and " Rakuten Books " increased by 39.4% compared with the same period last year .

 

In terms of the increase in the number of users who purchased more than one product during the period from January to March 2021, Rakuten Ichiba increased by 16.4% year-on-year. The purchase price per user increased by 15.5%, and the purchase frequency also increased by 15.9%.

 


Dedicated logistics

 

In order to seek further growth in e-commerce, Rakuten has established a joint venture with Japan Post to cooperate in the logistics business.

 

Together with Japan Post, we will promote the construction of logistics bases, distribution systems, and delivery services, as well as the expanded use of Rakuten's order parcel centers and parcels. In the words of President Hiroshi Mikitani, Rakuten Japan will be able to gain tens of billions of yen in cost advantages in the future by using Japan Post's distribution network.

 

The Lotte Group also plans to open automated and labor-saving logistics facilities at three bases in Tama, Yao and Fukuoka by 2023.

 


According to data released by Lotte, the number of stores and shipments using Lotte's comprehensive logistics service "Lotte Super Logistics (RSL)" increased by 72.5% compared to the same month last year. It is reported that the first quarter shipments increased by 134.2% compared to the same period last year , and the sales of stores using RSL are higher than the average of " Lotte Market " .
