eBay announces new support for sellers affected by cyclone in Western Australia

On April 21, eBay China’s official website released an announcement titled “Impact of Cyclone Seraoha in Western Australia: eBay will provide support to sellers.”

The announcement stated that Western Australia was hit by a strong hurricane, which may have affected the sellers' business on the eBay platform. To this end, eBay will provide support to sellers to keep their business on the eBay platform running normally.

Hurricane SEROJA was born on April 6, reaching its maximum intensity of Level 10. It weakened again after 7 days, with the minimum wind speed of Level 8. It then escalated all the way. The US JTWC has been upgrading the intensity rating of SEROJA. The maximum wind speed forecast was once increased from 100Kt to 105Kt, and then increased to 110Kt, which means the maximum wind speed is predicted to be 55 meters/second, equivalent to China's Level 16 super typhoon.

This may be the strongest wind the area has experienced in more than 50 years. Overnight, Kalbarri received nearly 167 mm of rainfall. The resort town of Kalbarri, which has a population of about 1,500, was hit hard by the storm. It is reported that Seroja landed south of Kalbarri on the evening of the 11th, destroying about 70% of the city's buildings . In addition, local transportation was also severely damaged.

In light of the devastation caused by the cyclone, eBay has decided to implement protections for sellers located in or shipping items to Western Australia. The following protections apply to all transactions conducted between Friday, April 9, 2021 and Friday, April 23, 2021:

1. For all transactions conducted during the above time period, eBay will automatically remove the seller's late shipment bad transactions, seller cancellation bad transactions and any related negative or neutral reviews received by the seller;

2. For all transactions conducted during the above time period, eBay will automatically remove the "Item Not Received (INR)" record from the seller's service indicators and any related negative or neutral reviews received by the seller. However, to be eligible for this protection measure, the seller must upload valid tracking information in time before the estimated delivery date.

Additionally, eBay will extend the estimated delivery dates for items on the site in the affected areas listed above to manage buyer expectations and provide sellers with more time to fulfill orders.
