Reddit launches audio conference room feature, and Clubhouse faces another strong rival!

This week, Reddit announced the upcoming launch of its audio product, Reddit Talk , a feature that gives users another way to connect within the app.

Reddit is testing the option, and currently only moderators will be able to start an audio chat in their subreddit, but it will provide more ways for all members to spark audio conversations and connect, while all Reddit users will be able to join a room, listen to conversations, react, and speak themselves.

It’s arguably another Clubhouse clone, but like Facebook , Reddit is looking to bring its audio options to Groups first to enhance connections within dedicated communities. In fact, audio rooms really fit in with Reddit, which already has a large number of highly engaged communities around specific topics.

Reddit has spent the past few years developing tools to increase real-time engagement and interactivity, adding tools like live streaming and in-app messaging to better connect users with similar interests.

Reddit has also experimented with random group discussions. Last April, Reddit added a "Start Chatting" option that allows users to start a closed group discussion with up to five members at a time.

The Audio Room feature allows Redditors to chat in real time with Redditors they already know and follow in the app, thereby enhancing their community connections and engagement, which is another great addition to the Reddit user experience.

Reddit Talk is currently in limited testing , with users offered the opportunity to sign up for a waitlist below to be notified when it becomes available.

It 's not just Reddit. Since Clubhouse became popular, major social media platforms have embarked on the audio social journey. For example, Facebook recently announced that it will launch a series of audio features similar to Clubhouse in the next few months, such as the audio-only version of Live Audio Rooms and the audio editing sharing product Soundbites.

The rise of the audio social trend, filling the void left by the lack of face-to-face events , has been one of the most talked-about social media developments of the past year, and The Drum speculates that the audio social trend is likely to continue .

Sellers can also consider using audio apps to carve out their own niche communities in the hopes of winning business in the process. In this process, it’s crucial to figure out what conversations your audience wants to have .
