The US Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that one in six Americans aged 16 and over enjoys going fishing, and the National Sporting Goods Association says the average angler in the US spends more than $1,000 a year on fishing .

According to DNR data, there are 1.2 million fishing users in Michigan. Dustin Isenhoff, a research specialist at the Michigan DNR, said: "Compared to 2019, our number of fishing customers has increased by 10.6%."

 

Overall, 2020 saw an increase in younger people, and while those 65 and older typically make up the majority of the fishing population, the 65 and older group actually declined by 1.2% in 2020. There was a significant increase in new anglers, up 27%, and in addition, there was a 23% increase in female participants.

 

So with so many new anglers and women coming in, there is a continued need for new products and equipment, which is great news for companies like Goelers and others like them.

 

With the continuous growth of anglers and the participation of younger groups, the market prospects of fishing equipment are expected to be very broad.
