Outrageous! Amazon online celebrity sellers were infringed by their peers by "changing faces"

In the course of business, sellers have more or less encountered the situation of product pictures and videos being stolen, but have you ever encountered the situation of "home" and "body" being stolen? Recently, a foreign seller encountered this.

According to foreign media reports , the product videos of this brand seller appeared in other Amazon stores . In the stolen videos , the products were designed by the seller himself , the body was the seller's own , the room was also the seller's , but the face was someone else's .

The seller is Cassey Ho, a well-known American fitness blogger , and founder and CEO of fitness apparel company Popflex and fitness community Blogilates. According to data, Ho has more than 2.83 million followers on Instagram, 3.5 million followers on TikTok , and 9.79 million followers on YouTube . In his social media accounts, Ho will show his design process to his fans. Ho also has his own store on Amazon ( Popflex ).

According to Ho, her team began investigating last month after fans informed her of listings of counterfeit brand products on Amazon.

The Amazon listing provided by the fan sells a replica of Ho's Pirouette skirt and pants , and the product description contains photos and videos of Ho's products ( except for the face ). The listing has been removed. It is reported that on the official website of Popflexactive.com, the skirt is $60 and sold out in 15 minutes.

(The screenshots are from the video released by Ho. The left picture is the original version, and the right picture is after the face is changed)

In the infringing listing, the counterfeit seller also "micro" processed the model in the picture, slightly changing the model's appearance; in the video, except for the face, everything else is exactly the same as the original video. It is speculated that these processings are most likely completed through AI tools . From the video posted by Ho on X (original Twitter), it can be seen that the video after the "face change" is quite natural, and there is almost no trace of "face change". Ho speculated that the counterfeit seller did this (modified the video and pictures) to make it more difficult for Amazon's AI to detect the infringement of this listing.

When talking about infringing listings, Ho said, "I really feel desperate." I find a lot of them every day, not just on Amazon. At least Amazon is a US platform with relatively strict supervision. But every time (to delete a listing), you need to fill out a form, submit it to Amazon, and then wait for a response - the trouble is left to the seller whose listing is infringed.

After learning about this, an Amazon spokesperson said that they would contact Ho as soon as possible and said that from the moment the seller puts the product on the shelf for sale, the platform will use advanced technology to check for possible problem lists; if the platform finds problems, it will take quick action to protect customers and brands, including deleting product listings and blocking related accounts.

But as a seller, Ho believes that Amazon still needs to change some policies to make it easier for designers to protect their rights and make it more difficult for counterfeit sellers to upload products.

Many sellers can relate to Ho's experience. One seller said that his product pictures were also stolen, but after he filed a complaint, the platform ruled that the complaint was invalid. After the seller pointed out that the background of the stolen picture was his room, the thief photoshopped out the background of the picture. The seller had no choice but to hire a lawyer, and the infringing listing was deleted.

However, Amazon provides a "brand registration" service to help sellers protect their intellectual property rights and better manage and expand their business on Amazon. At the same time, some sellers offer advice: Be sure to register your company's trademark; you can also add watermarks to images to reduce the chance of them being stolen, "You can add them in an inconspicuous place so they are not easily removed."
