During the year-end procurement period, purchases in December were 26% higher than the same period in 2020 , according to Russian Standard Bank .
The difference between December last year and December 2020 is that the epidemic has stabilized, public sentiment has generally improved, and large-scale vaccination has been carried out. Against this background, Russians have become more active in New Year consumption.
According to Russian Standard Bank, not only did total purchases increase in the last month of last year, but the amount also increased by 34% compared to December 2020.
Separately, the bank's analysts studied Russians' online and offline spending on New Year's Eve. Statistics for December 2021 showed that online purchase orders increased by 20% and the amount increased by 38% compared to December 2020. At the same time, offline purchases increased by 32% and -29 % , respectively .
During the epidemic , Russians have become accustomed to the convenience of online shopping, and the cost of online purchases has gradually increased compared to offline. The average online consumption in December 2021 increased by 15% over the previous year to 1,488 rubles, while the offline figure decreased by 2% to about 1,176 rubles.
Among the e-commerce consumption, the most popular categories are food, clothing and stamps, with average spending of about 1,283 rubles, 1,456 rubles and 1,702 rubles respectively. From the statistics , it can be seen that the food and grocery wholesale market has become the leader in online shopping . During the long holiday , Russians are trying to buy more products at low prices.
At the same time, the highest offline spending was in fast food restaurants , with an average expenditure of 598 rubles; grocery stores and supermarkets , with an average expenditure of 641 rubles; followed by clothing stores, accessories and brand boutiques , with an average expenditure of 25,227 rubles.
Among them, in December this year , against the backdrop of weakening prevention and control restrictions and large-scale vaccination efforts, parties and New Year celebrations among family and friends increased significantly compared with a year ago. All this led to a significant increase in Russians' demand for fashionable evening dresses, accessories and shoes, so there was a significant increase in demand for clothing stores and boutiques.
