Number of registered Wildberries sellers surges

Data shows that there are currently more than 300,000 people on the Wildberries platform, including 56,000 individual sellers. As of now in 2021, an average of 26,000 sellers join each month.

The development of e-commerce in Russia has also been affected by the epidemic. After a significant increase in online sales in the central region, various e-commerce platforms have expanded their sales channels to remote areas and more small sellers.

Taking the Lake Baikal region as an example, the number of berry sellers increased 19 times year-on-year in 2021. More and more sellers are starting to sell local specialties on e-commerce platforms, such as various delicacies and jams made from pine and cedar cones from the Khanty -Mansiysk region, natural sheepskin and wool products from Khakassia, canned fish, and so on.

In terms of the regional distribution of the number of sellers, Moscow and St. Petersburg are still the main regions, followed by Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Nizhny Novgorod and Ivanovo regions. The number of sellers in other regions such as Bashkortostan, Tatarstan and Krasnodar Krai has also increased significantly.

From January to August 2021, the most popular products in the Trans-Baikal region were natural cosmetics for skin care, bright women's clothing with unique animal and natural prints, and in terms of jewelry, handmade jewelry was more popular.

Last year's lockdown boosted e-commerce, forcing millions of Russians to shop online for the first time, but now that offline events have reopened, this habit will not stop completely. The surge in the number of sellers reflects that Russian e-commerce is booming, and as the largest local e-commerce platform, Wildberries is also the first choice for sellers.

As the epidemic eased, data from major e-commerce platforms also showed that online sales were not greatly affected, and sales still grew by double digits. Among them, Wildberries and Ozon's sales grew by triple digits. Among them, Russia's online food sales tripled to 149 billion rubles, or about $2 billion.

Russia also has a population of over 100 million, and its market potential has yet to be tapped. Interested sellers can also conduct market research.
