India's Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has asked Amazon to stop selling seatbelt buckles , citing potential safety risks .

Amazon India has a number of seatbelt buckle products for sale that are described as being able to "eliminate" seatbelt alarms on various car models and types , with prices as low as 249 rupees ( about $3.12).

An Amazon spokesperson said that the relevant products have been removed from Amazon India .

Gadkari said that in 2021, about 150,000 people died in car accidents in India, and on average one person died in a car accident every four minutes . Currently, the front driver's seat and passenger seat of the car are equipped with seat belt alarms , and India plans to make it mandatory for the rear seats of the car to be equipped with seat belt alarms.

Gadkari also said that the Consumer Protection Act requires CCPA to first provide preliminary findings , that is, there is preliminary evidence that there is a case of violation of consumer rights, and then submit the case for investigation and issue a ban order after the investigation .

A spokesperson for Amazon said that it is currently removing seat belt buckle products from the US and UK markets . The company is investigating related products in all global markets and will take appropriate action .
