Amazon warns: Antitrust laws may affect third-party sellers' sales

Since the beginning of this year, Amazon has faced antitrust pressure from many aspects. Amazon US has also issued a new announcement on these issues, hoping that American sellers can try to understand and participate in legislative information that may affect sellers' business.

It is reported that Amazon issued this announcement because in May this year , Karl Racine, Attorney General of Washington, DC, filed a lawsuit accusing Amazon of abusing its market dominance by signing pricing contracts with third-party sellers. Subsequently, the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee approved an antitrust law legislation plan in June .

Among them, the "End Platform Monopoly Act" is one of the most radical bills because it not only accuses Amazon of competing with these merchants through its own brands , but also accuses the FBA service provided by the Amazon platform. It says that sellers pay fees and use the FBA service provided by Amazon to improve their ranking in searches, as well as other benefits. This shows to some extent that sellers are forced to use this service.

Amazon also responded to the complaint, with Dharmesh Mehta , Amazon's vice president of " Customer Trust and Partner Support ," sending an email to all US Amazon sellers .

The email content shows: Although it is early in the legislative process, if enacted, the antitrust reforms proposed by Congress may limit Amazon 's operational capabilities and affect the sales of third-party sellers on the platform , thereby causing hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized American companies to lose access to Amazon customers and services.

In addition, sellers are also talking about this new announcement released by Amazon US.

Seller A: Perhaps the enactment of the bill will be beneficial to third-party sellers. After all, the power of Amazon's own brands will be weakened.

Seller B: Amazon is facing antitrust pressure from multiple aspects!

Seller C: The legislation passed by Congress is aimed at separating some of Amazon’s businesses and will never endanger the interests of Amazon’s third-party sellers.

Currently, as the legislation progresses, in order to clearly understand the impact of the enactment of this bill on Amazon’s US sellers, Amazon is also actively soliciting feedback from US registered sellers and communicating closely with members of Congress .
